Meniscus Repair in the Young Patients Under the Arthroscopy

Abstract
It has been well known that several complications such as arthritis, pain and joint instability occur as the result of meniscectomy. Meniscectomy is not an innocuous procedure, and it seems reasonable to suggest that if an injured meniscus could
be
salvaged rather than excised and that of associated injured tissue could be repaired, the outcome of knee surgery in meniscus injuries might improve. Arthroscopy is now performed as a part of the preoperative evaluation of a knee in which
meniscus
injury is suspected, and if a large peripheral meniscus tear in young patients found, it may be considered reparable.
So we analyzed that 19 knees with injured meniscus diagnosed by the use of history and physical examination as well as by M R I(magnetic resonace imaging). Were repaired by arthroscopy from June 1992 to June 1993.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1. Medial meniscus was torn in 8 cases, lateral meniscus 7 cases, both meniscus 4 cases.
2. To compare the results of tow methods of diagnosis were obtained with 74% accuracy by the of history and physical examination and with 83% accuracy by M R I.
3. As being excellent and good results after meniscus repair were classified with 73%.
So we thought that the peripheral meniscus tear in young patients may be repaired by arthroscopy.
